I wish that such a dictionary had been available to me when I began learning Chinese more than thirty years ago. Once published, it will greatly simplify the efforts required by students to obtain a good knowledge of the Chinese language and will also be of great use to native speakers of the language as well as to specialists in the field of Chinese language pedagogy. I highly recommend that it be published in the near future.
-- Jerry D. Schmidt, Professor at the University of British Columbia

What makes this such an outstanding reference word are the detailed explanations of individual characters and compounds; explanations that are thoroughly elucidated by an impressive collection of examples taken from literary sources (a strong emphasis on the contemporary), scholarly journals spanning a wide range of disciplines, newspapers and magazines.
A particularly strong feature of this work is its usefulness to both students with a relatively elementary proficiency in Chinese language, as well as to schools/teachers who are native Chinese speakers or fully fluent non-native speakers.
-- Dr. James Keefer, University of Victoria

"A Usage Dictionary of 70,000 Chinese Words" is a project of unprecedented scale facilitated by the very creative and ingenious application of cutting edge computer technology. In fact, twenty years ago this kind of project could only have been completed with the assistance of dozens of scholars working thousands of hours each.
…It is very well designed and easy to use. The definitions and examples provided are clear and easily accessible. It should be of immediate and practical use to anyone with a working knowledge of Chinese. It is a vast improvement over available works in its inclusiveness and currency.
As we all know, ordinary dictionaries are often deficient when it comes to providing accurate illustrations of word usage. However, a usage dictionary with the scope and detail of Dr. Li
s will potentially offer students an invaluable study aid.
In Summary, I highly recommend that "A Usage Dictionary of 70,000 Chinese Words" be given highest priority for publication. I further recommend that distribution of the book not be limited to the Chinese-speaking world, but also be extended to places like North America and Europe where large numbers of scholars and students will find it of assistance in their work. This is an immensely useful compilation.
-- Terence C. Russell, Associate Professor, University of Manitoba

This Dictionary has a great capacity of containing examples of usage for 70,000 Chinese words. It is extremely useful not only for higher level students (both native speakers and non-native Chinese learners), but also for Chinese teachers and professionals. This is a unique dictionary in that all of the rich examples are chosen from newspapers, magazines and the works of famous modern Chinese writers, which is incomparable with all dictionaries on the market.
I would recommend that it be published.
This dictionary is extremely useful outside the United States (so, it must be priced well in order for Asian students and teachers to buy it). In other words, it will be of most interest to people in Chinese speaking communities (i.e., the Mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan...etc.), not in America, Europe, or other places.
As for American Students who study Chinese, this dictionary will be of interest only to upper level students (about third year). I may recommend it to my 4th and 5th year Chinese students. However, it will be extremely useful for Chinese teachers everywhere in the world and they will love to have it. In addition to it, scholars must have it for personal use and libraries for patron use.
In teaching and compiling Chinese textbooks, I am eager to have this dictionary, and, if published, I would like to add it to my curriculum for training teachers, teaching advanced students, and for compiling textbooks.
